Hi Jose, I'm a retired R/Sgt. SDSO over 20yrs. I'm also disabled and spend allot of time listening to aircraft on the computer and on my Pro-96 in my truck. I don't know why I didn't look earlier for police freqs on the computer? Well, now I'm here,THIS IS SO COOL!! Now, I can listen in the house without bringing my scanner out of the truck. Oh boy,my wife will go crazy now hearing this in the truck AND in the house!! This really has an important use due to living in Julian, during fire season(year-round now) when I hear sirens I will be able to find out "whats up". Thank's for making this possible.

Hi Jose -- Yes, please post my name -- Ben Decker from Lakeside. It was my pleasure to donate and I hope it helps out. Your service was literally a lifesaver. Our friends in Ramona called me up and said they had no power and could not tell where the fire was. I tried the news and could not get anything definite from that. So, I did a web search and found scandiego. I listened for hours and called them on their cells whenever I heard a report of where the fire was or who was going to be evacuated next. They, in turn, relayed it to everyone around them. At one point it was on the corner of Pile and Magolia. They and several other people said "that's where we evactuated our horses to!" and bolted over to move them again (they were helping out in town thinking their horses were safe!). Keep up the good work! I am definitely going to purchase a scanner of my own as well. -Ben

First off, I'd like to thank you for supplying this website. I was a Marine based at Camp Pendleton from 1960 to 1964, and when one of my ham friends sent me this site, it brought back memories. I even went through Boot Camp at MCRD. I've been listening to some of the stuff that's been going on with all the fires - more familiar locations - but one of the services on #3 channel is apparently one of the local electrical utilities down there. This makes it even more interesting, because I recently retired from many years' service with Tacoma City Light, and I can understand what they're talking about! Thank you very much, from an appreciative fellow radio amateur and retired electrical worker! 73, de Frank (Billington) - W7FJB Maple Valley, WA

I can only bet you never thought you would see such traffic on your site....But thanks for the great service you have provided to so many even tho i am out of your area.Great job keeping radios up.Thanks again.Just a heads up.You don't hear 1144 or 1146 on police radio anymore..You must listen to Clevland or heartland fire to do so.Mattlogic.com will get you to Clevland fire and some heartland.Maybe you can get something out of it.Need Windows player for same.

Just like to say how amazing I think your website is. I have a web stream based on ices and icecast. http://sagrn1.accessdigital.com.au:8000/GRNcbd.html But the integration between your website and the streams is amazing. Good Work Owen Adelaide South Australia

First, your audio feeds are slick. I live in Ohio but my company is based out of San Diego. I was just there last week and missed the fires in the area by a day or so. It is nice being able to listen in on the public service radio traffic. Second, I think I'm not the only one listening in and it may have crashed your servers as your audio feed links are now down. Just an FYI. Todd... KC8EDS

keeping up with rewriting the site's abilities while in the midst of the sd fires 07. Being a software professional, I appreciate your efforts and found the police scanner invaluable in determining when to evacuate. Thanks so much for your help!

Thanks for keeping the site up. We evacuated our home in Carmel Valley/Del Mar this morning around 8:30AM Monday and drove to Seal Beach, my in-laws home. I googled and found your site to keep apprised of my home, which is in visual line of site of Rancho Sante Fe/Fairbanks. My office is right off of West Rancho Bernardo, and I listened to your site as the fire dept were fighting the fires. I have been listening all day and will be listening all night the next few days. Thank You! Stu WB6YRW

Hi Jose, I remember the days when I was living in San Diego listening to your online police scanner. Back then it was odd to see more than 10 or so people 'listening in' at any given time. I guess these fires have really generated a lot of hits! My mom and sister still live in San Diego and live in the affected areas of Rancho Bernardo / Poway. They are at Qualcomm right now and I have been giving them updates from the information heard on your scanners. I am a long time listener and just wanted to say thank you for you service to our community. Its time like these that really display the incredible importance of real information. Thanks again for the great site! Your friend, KI6BHD

My friend, I must thank you endlessly for providing the scansandiego website for all to listen. I have been listening almost every night since I found the site nearly 8 months ago. I feel ashamed to admit I've never donated anything your way. So please, allow me the opportunity to finally do so. The best I can do is send a check your way in the mail. So if you don't mind providing a mailing address, I woulddn't mind expressing my thanks via a donation for all your hard work. One of the worst feelings is visiting the website to do my daily listening, and discovering the scanners are having issues and can't connect. I applaude your hard work in resolving the issues, thus getting things up and running. My reason for listening is practice and education. A year and a half ago I decided to pursue a career with the San Diego Police Department. I'm working hard at the gym, in school to achieve a degree in Admin of Justice, and paying off old credit card debts (basically doing all I can to mold myself into a viable candidate). My other proactive learning comes from listening to the scanner you provide. Not only am I grasping the words used for phonetic spellings (Adam, Baker, Charles, David, Edward, etc..) but the commonly used Penal and California Vehicle Codes. Also - the 10's and 11's used. Not to mention, this is a great tool to help train your ear. This past friday I went on my 7th ride along with Northern Division PD. An officer asked what I did for work. I told him I'm with FedEx Ground. He had a hard time believing me because I was so familiar with their codes, he assumed my job had something to do with Law Enforcment. This Friday will be my 8th ride along with Norther Div. I thank you for the education I've received that can't be taught anywhere else other than in the Police Academy or feild traning after graduation. Again, please provide me with a mailing address as I'd love to FINALLY send a donation your way. Thanks again.

Hello Jose, Thank you for providing this awesome website to me. Your comment section does not work so I thought Id leave a message with you. I love this website and the live feeds I run 24/7!! (I hope thats not a problem). I tell everyone I know about this site. I will be donating asap because I know this equipment/running it is not cheap. Im going to be buying my own set of scanners but in the mean time I love listening to yours. Thank you again

Hey Jose, I’m working on safety issues in Pacific Beach. Would you be interested in setting up a server (I provide box and scanner) whereby we only broadcast a specific San Diego Police command? How much do you think this service would cost? I would then stream the site from my office. I’m a web developer (html/cgi/script kiddie) so I can do any web-based stuff. I’m more interested in the server setup. I’m thinking of giving our local neighborhood watch groups a website where they could monitor the scanner. Then, when problems such as hit and run or vandalism come up our folks could be an additional set of eyes/ears and report any suspicious things to the police. Not sure if this would be as beneficial as I’m imagining so just doing basic research now. Thanks much! Jerry

HI, first of all i would like to congratulate you and all the people that make this website possible. I have been listening to this for about six months and it is so awasome that it has got me all exited about scanning that i even went to walmart and bought me a bearcat 350a for me to listen in my car. thats were i have my question. Could you please provide me with the frequency for the san diego pd. and chula vista pd I can't seem to find it on the scanner, it would be great if you could do me this very big favor. thank you and keep up the good work.

have been tuning in to this awesome free streaming site for probably 6 months or so now..., and I have to give a minute to say thank you to whoever made this really super nice place. Scanners cost like a ton of money, and I have heard this place pick up the helicopters and cop cars right outside my house. Some nice person saved me a grip of money by making this available to all of us. Its always got coverage, never any trouble tuning in, and the simple website format that is a no brainer. What a great thing. With so many crappy and cheezeballz websites that just want your money. Yours roxs. Thanks again ~~~~whoever you nice, nice and super kewl person are. .Ur loyal La Jolla listening lady

Interesting site, we have no crime over here so it was interesting hearing what Police get up to besides clipping the lugs of wayward kids playing pranks on old ladies. Do any of you regular listeners ever get tempted to call in any old event to get in on the act :) Just kidding, keep up the good work!

I love your site and find it very interesting. I'm a substitute teacher with very limited income, but when I can, I will definitely donate. My sister, niece and three nephews just finished visiting me here in San Diego and are headed back to Hudson, Ohio. My nephews were very interested and I copied WinAmp on a disc along with all your information for them to enjoy. Can you tell me how to find URL's for the Hudson are (Summit County) so they can monitor their area? I don't know how to use those scanner frequencies, etc. Any help would greatly be appreciated. Thanks in advance for your attention. Rob

I am listening from the UK and have an interest in all this as I used to have an analouge handheld system, but since all turned to digital, cannot get the signals anymore. :( but am glad have found this interesting site, it really brings it all back. I like the setup and have read your pages about how you have done this, but still am a little perplexed. Thanks for your free site, PS seeing as you have knowledge can you advise me on a suitable digital handheld system for the UK or what sort of digital items I would need to start my own, as it would be nice to go a little local again, although I will remain with yourself for now as it does fill the room with interesting talk, as I could do when I had my scanner.

First I would like to thank you for doing such a great job on the Scanner Site. I have passed this link to all my friends and they are thouroughly enjoying it! I am currently in the Coast Guard and I would love to hear a feed of the San Diego Harbor Police while at work. If this is possible, I know they work on a 800mhz system, and that is about all I know. Is there any way that I can listen to the scanner without the WinAmp? I unfortunately cannot load the program into the system at work....... Thanks again for the great site, let me know if you need something. Patrick,USCG

You mean to tell me that only one person has commented on your site since I submitted my remarks back in October of last year? Well I appreciate this site, the free service you offer, and the work you do behind the scene that makes all of this possible. You rock! Sure there are things I would like changed about the scanner feeds, but my gratitude for your efforts incline me to humble down and just say THANK YOU.

First, a sincere thank you for all of your hard work. The site is great!! I have listened on and off for a couple of years and have tried to enlist friends to listen also. Most of all thank you for adding the third scanner ( I have to admit that because i use winamp to access the stream i didn't know about the 3rd scanner until I was showing a friend where to find you) i enjoyed scanner 1 but since i live in north county 3 definitely holds more of my interest. The variety of feeds is fantastic. Law, fire, roads...awesome!! If i could make one suggestion i would ask that you remove the SDC EMS ALS feed. Scanning through so many different agencies makes it is difficult to follow specific incidents (difficult but possible) but once an EMS call starts you can be certain that it will be a while until they're done and the scanner resumes rotation. I think that removing that one feed will make it easier to follow what is going on with all of the other agencies. again, thank you for your time and effort. It really is appreciated. best regards ps please accept my humble donation of $25 via paypal

Hey, love the site and that's about enough ass kissing out of me. Your site used to have a page that translated all the 10 and 11 radio codes used by San Diego's finest, but it seems to have disappeared. Other sites on the internet are all crap. Can you put it back and in a new and improved version? Gracias either way. Eric.

i was searching in particular to listen to what is going on in my area i am new up here in north county. i think i have moved to a pretty bad area since there is sirens up and down my streets every night, and just recently someone jumped my back fence and was hiding in my back yard! i would like to listen the way i did when i lived down in san diego. its something to do when there is nothin on tv!

I would like to see the whole "Trunking: - ID" part of the tags removed so it will fit better in a default size winamp playlist window. Of course I'm being selfish; I have no idea what kinds of players people use and that information might be usefull to people in the area. I wish scanner2.ogg would be made for fire/med only with scanner.ogg being only police. Anyways, I like the site.

Having just finished reading the other comments I know you hear this a lot BUT nice work! This site is terrific and I would like to set something similar up here in the Pasadena area. Would you kindly provide me with information about how you built the site and what is involved? The link in the FAQ answering that question doesn't work. By the way, I am currently entertaininig a TeamSpeak site but like the way yours works better.

Hi, great job on the feed! What antenna are you using? I'll be staying at UCSD during the summer for a summer program and I was wondering how good I'll be able to pick up the SD city trunked system with just the stock antenna. I'm considering getting the RS 800 Mhz antenna. Thanks!

Hi, I'm new to the area. I'm from Rochester (Monroe County), NY and a volunteer EMT so I like to listen to the fire/EMS channels when I'm at home. I really appreciate your streams, but I have my own scanner and I was wondering if you could appraise me of the frequencies around here. In Rochester, there's a county EMS dispatch for the entire county except the city (volunteer agencies) and then in the city Rural/Metro has their own dispatch.

How does it work here? I live in Encinitas, do you know what frequencies I should be listening to hear EMS/fire in that area? What about the Sheriff, do your streams cover the sheriff all the way up to north county?

Thanks a lot,

Hi there. I think you site is probably one of the best online scanner sites I have seen (and I have been looking at allot looking for link partners). Have you ever considered exchanging links with other online scanning sites?

If not: Your site is great, I will probably be listening to it every so often! I might even email you again asking some configuration questions. Cya :-)

If so: I have a online scanner for Victorville California. Its nothing like yours :-(, just a stream. Would you consider exchanging links to each other? http://www.myvictorville.com/police-scanner.php Thanks for your time and a site that is totally devoted to scanning!

Just a note to say thanks for providing this service. I grew up in SD Co. listening to local scanners and worked several years there in emergency services. Now I am a long ways away, and it is great to be able to listen in again. Would love to be able to hear a feed of CDF/Monte Vista CC during fire season! No trunking there yet, right?

Anyways, When i get enough money together, i will happily donate to your scanner funds. I am in midst of moving right now, and cant afford to donate at this time. Keep up the fantastic work, i can not be thankful enough for your hard work and efforts you have put into this. I work down in the mission beach/ pacific beach area, I do armed security and let me tell you....my company took this account due to the amount of TWEAKERS, WOW i was amazed, i now know the meaning of white trash trailer park. Anyhow, we work hand n hand with San Diego Police down there, and the scanner feed comes in handy. When our outfit took over the mobilehome park, it was the 2nd highest drug area north of the border (according to DEA,FBI and San Diego Police Narcotics division). The call volume and crime has cut down 77% since we came on board. So, in a way, you have made our "wonders" go away, knowing when we here that our arrest or assistance is in route. Thank you Jose, again, this has helped so much. I/we use the scanner for work and play.

Thank you Thank you Thank you Thank you.

Like others, I dropped out of scanning when the trunked systems came on-line. I've missed scanning, and was delighted to find your site. It's bookmarked, and I'll be back often. Thanks for the service. By the way, could you refer me to someone who can program the two trunked scanners I have? I'd sure like to be able to use them and to tune into North County radio traffic.

Not that we dont appreciate them . . . but 022864 seems to be the water department, and you haven't lived until you've heard the water department troubleshoot a water pump problem. Regarding the second stream, my vote is for aircraft communications, which I think you had on there briefly. Thanks for the continued hard work!

Thanks a million for this great web site. I had given up scanning after everyone in San Diego went to the trunked systems and SDSD went to the special encrypted systems. With the leaps in scanning technology, I doubt I could figure out how to operate the new scanners! :-)

I first heard of your scanner in Live Scanner Audio yahoo group. I am also a member of Scott's Scan Massachusetts and I have feed on Teamspeak Scan Massachusetts. If you have Teamspeak, you can listen to my scanner - Virginia - Shenandoah Wide Area. I am part time. I also have a web site where you can access my scanner feed and I have links of all kinds there - and have included yours also because I love your scanner and tags! I use to live in San Diego in the 70's - wonderful place. Great page!! Thanks!!

I was one of those accidents out there a couple of years ago, and I was the drunk driver that caused it. Jose,

Please accept this small donation for you, your website, whatever! Your scanner feed was inspiration to get me started on implementing one like it. I'm pleased to say that as the result of some research and the help of others, it has come to fruition. I'm testing it now and should have it online permanently in a few days. I appreciate your responses to my e-mails, and the help you provided. You also may be interested to know that I'm employed at a police department on Cape Cod. My supervisor is a former San Diego police officer. He was absolutely thrilled when I enlightened him to your feed the other day, and has been listening steadily since I installed Winamp and a link to it on his work computer.

Best wishes. Hope to see you at the Live Scanner Audio Yahoogroup.

September 13th, 2004

Hello,

My compliments to you for the superb job you've done with your live scanner feed. I am extremely impressed with its operation; it's the best one I have seen to date, as a matter of fact.

I run a feed for the Cape Cod Massachusetts area, and have done so for almost three years straight. It runs both video and audio using Windows Media Encoder, but I have been very unhappy with the video portion of the feed and plagued by bandwidth issues, not to mention the resource consumption of WME. I use a Uniden BC780XLT for the scanner, and I use ARC780 software and capture a portion of its virtual screen as the video. I am occasionally plagued by the video lagging behind the audio and/or freezing altogether for a period of time. Very frustrating.

The way you're scrolling your text data into this feed is very intriguing, and extremely effective. I understand you're doing this with scripts in Linux. Is there, or are you aware of, a Windows equivalent. I would dump my WME feed in a second if I could come up with something like your setup...very impressive.

Thanks, and best wishes.

Hey there!! My name is James, and i am a huge fan of the scanner site. I think its really fun to listen in on the cops and EMS people. I also have a suggestion. One minute i'm listening to central, then i'm listening to northern, then fire, etc. Keep up the good work!!

I would like to compliment you on this site. Just to tell you about myself, I am a totally blind computer programmer, and scanner enthusiast. I especially like the winamp stream, with the talk group id, and alpha tags because with my screen reading program, I can know what is being displayed on the screen, the same way your sited listeners do. I know that you might be quite busy, but if you can tell me how you are accomplishing this task, I would eventually like to put my scanner on the web as well.

Again, thanks for a great site.

So glad to find your great-quality site. I found it Thursday midnight . . . . [snip] I love anything about radio and wish I knew more technically. You've been a big help. As for adding all the refinements, this didn't start out as a big public service project for you, we get it free with all your hard work, so we're lucky you're willing to do it at all. I hope the complaints are few and far between.

May 1st, 2004:

To Whom it May Concern:

Just wanted to say thank you! The scanner is awesome--as a former EMS employee I used to love listening, but after SD switched to its new system a few years ago, nothing covered it anymore. At risk of being an ass, just wanted to make a couple suggestions: maybe a longer pause in the silence detection before switching? reponses can usually take a few seconds... But if you did that, ya might want to yank some of the less interesting channels, like the meter maids. :-) Without, your page still has to be the best scanner site I've seen! Thanks again for providing such a neat service.
